“He taught me what they say 8about me
Don’t mean shit,
Give yo gift to the world
Let ’em take what they can get.”
On Friday, the anniversary of reggae icon Bob Marley’s passing, Jacobi Ryan kicked off Week 19 of his #52in365 #FormerlyFresh music campaign with the release of his track “Bob Marley”. Produced by DG Beats the song is about the influence that Bob Marley has had on Jacobi and how his impact has resonated with his own values, knowing what is best for him, the importance of Bob Marley’s voice for human rights, and his own acquired knowledge about the truth – sometimes it’s a conflict. (“Bob Marley had me thinkin’ about my life/The the way I live it be so different though/Instead of talkin’ chillin’/Listen, Bob Marley had me thinkin’ about my life/Like what am I really here for?/And is that what I stand for?”) Hence, the hashtag and title for Jacobi’s weekly podcast #TMIKTMID (“The More I Know, The More I Don’t”). The track itself is soulful and laid back with some easy bass and drum rhythms. This is definitely a track that you can kick back and vibe out to. Y’all enjoy!
“Bob Marley” is now available on all digital streaming platforms.
