#52in365 Week 20: “Bling, Bling” by Jacobi Ryan | @Nothin2Much (Prod. by @DrView1)

“Don’t be afraid
To let your light
Shine on the world…”

Jacobi got things rolling for Week 20 of his #52in365 #FormerlyFresh music campaign with another collaboration from Texas DJ and Producer Dr. View with the self affirming track entitled “Bling Bling”. I said earlier in the campaign you need to watch this man’s light, and how fitting that the theme of “Bling Bling” is all about Jacobi letting his light shine while encouraging you to focus and do the same (and shout out the classic “for the culture” phrase popularized by Cash Money’s B.G like a bonafide hip hop head…) “Imma let my light shine/Imma let my light shine/Every time I come around your city/Bling bling.” On “Bling, Bling”, Jacobi highlights his personal experiences for the had to push through and still be ON “regardless”, which was also his personal mantra and title of the EP that kicked off 2019 right before #52in365 jumped off. On the track, Dr. View teases us with his DJ skills over a soulful sample which culminates into a pleasurable listening experience for those that fiend to hear that element in hip hop songs and not just the feel good production of the song alone

So, remember folks – do you “refuckingardless” and let your light shine. Y’all enjoy and stay tuned for more “Bling, Bling” content this week.

#52in365 Week 19: The Education of Jacobi Ryan – “Bob Marley” [Prod. by DG Beats]

“He taught me what they say 8about me
Don’t mean shit,
Give yo gift to the world
Let ’em take what they can get.”

On Friday, the anniversary of reggae icon Bob Marley’s passing, Jacobi Ryan kicked off Week 19 of his #52in365 #FormerlyFresh music campaign with the release of his track “Bob Marley”. Produced by DG Beats the song is about the influence that Bob Marley has had on Jacobi and how his impact has resonated with his own values, knowing what is best for him, the importance of Bob Marley’s voice for human rights, and his own acquired knowledge about the truth – sometimes it’s a conflict. (“Bob Marley had me thinkin’ about my life/The the way I live it be so different though/Instead of talkin’ chillin’/Listen, Bob Marley had me thinkin’ about my life/Like what am I really here for?/And is that what I stand for?”) Hence, the hashtag and title for Jacobi’s weekly podcast #TMIKTMID (“The More I Know, The More I Don’t”). The track itself is soulful and laid back with some easy bass and drum rhythms. This is definitely a track that you can kick back and vibe out to. Y’all enjoy!

“Bob Marley” is now available on all digital streaming platforms.

You Versus You: “Long Time Coming” (Official Video) – Jacobi Ryan | @Nothin2Much (Prod. by Dylan Graham)

Photo: Sike Images

Earlier today, Jacobi Ryan released the visuals for his Week 16 track, the Dylan Graham produced “Long Time Coming”. Now, in the visuals for the track you’ll high key see “it”. Long time fans will recognize and remember “it”- the vintage BOMBnCOMS hoodie from his clothing line he introduced a few years back, makin’ a cameo apearance in the visuals – but it’s still all black everything and all eyes on the #52in365 movement. Although, this week’s visuals do include “more” of Jacobi via special effects and also captures his solitude, as the location for the visuals is inside a spacious one room dwelling. But, all the aesthetics ties in to the message in the lyrics, as the song is akin to Jacobi having a motivational conversation with himself about his journey to success, which he discusses in this week’s episode of #TMIKTMID podcast. The podcast is available for listening at the end of this post and you definitely want to hear Jacobi’s thoughts on how the NBA’s David Stern, Allen Iverson, and Michael Jordan all connect with some of the lyrics from the song. So, if you’re in the midst of running your own “marathon” and even if you stop and restart again, and again, this message is for you. Y’all enjoy!

“When talkin to myself,
I say get up outta the way,
I say get up outta the way
‘Be forgetting that’s how u play
It’s been a long time coming…”
– Jacobi Ryan,
“Long Time Coming”

🏁 The Anthem: “Who R U?” (Official Video) by Jacobi Ryan | @Nothin2Much (prod. by Jaylord)

Photo: Sike Images

“This the anthem
For people working on it
The ones who want the money
With the purpose on it…”

The marathon continues… Jacobi Ryan dropped the visuals for his edgy and message filled, Week 14 track entitled “Who R U?” (or also “Who Are You?”) the other day. Produced by Jaylord, in the visuals Jacobi delivers the anthemic “Who R U?” from the heart of downtown Oklahoma, while enjoying “who” he is and indulging in a game of ping-pong – yeah that’s the “bounce” – listen to the beginning of the track. If you haven’t heard “Who R U?”, on the track, Jacobi draws from personal experience as he describes his journey to becoming more self-aware of himself, sans what others might think he should be, and at the same times makes listeners think about how they may regard themselves by purposefully and repeatedly asking “Who R U?” on the hook of the track. Yes, the track is meant to make you question somethin’ – are you, you? Or are you the product of the opinions of what others label you to be? The #52in365 #FormerlyFresh music campaign is not only a music campaign it’s a movement inspiring you to create, own and think for yourself. “Hoodie up, mind open, mouth closed… “. Y’all enjoy!

THE PODCAST…
Episode 14 of Jacobi Ryan’s #TMIKTMID podcast is now live. This week’s topics include: grief and productivity, why it’s so hard for us to admit we don’t know anything, RIP Nipsey tha Great, and of course the story behind this week’s track “Who R U?”. This week’s podcast is informative and certainly tugs at the heart, as the hip hop world continues to grieve the passing of Nipsey Hussle who was an inspiration to Jacobi… #365 continues to carry the baton and “it won’t be in vain.”
